Ticehurst is a nursing and residential home on the outskirts of Aldershot providing professional, compassionate care in a friendly and welcoming environment.

The successful candidate will be required to prepare, cook and serve well balanced, nutritious meals for service users who can have a range of dietary requirements.

You will also be required to maintain high levels of cleanliness in the kitchen and storage areas, wash up on a regular basis, and manage stock.

Ideally you will hold a level 2 certificate in food hygiene however this training could be made available to the right candidate if necessary.

Job Purpose:

To assist delivering high standards to service users by providing nutritious, varied and well balanced meals that are safely and hygienically prepared and served in line with legal regulations and departmental procedures. To deputise for the Cook in their absence

Role Responsibilities:

- To assist in the preparation and cooking of a variety of meals which are appealing, nutritious and centres around residents’ preferences, requests or any special dietary requirements.
- To deputise for the Cook in his/her absence.
- To understand and comply with statutory and legal requirements such as HACCP, Health and Safety, COSHH, Environmental Health, ensuring a safe environment within the Unit.
- To understand, monitor and maintain the requirements laid out in the Food Safety Management System, and ensure that all areas of the kitchen and kitchenettes (where applicable) are kept clean and tidy. This will include the washing up of pots, pans and dishes when required.
- Where appropriate supervise and instruct catering staff in the use of all equipment and hygiene procedures giving help and guidance where appropriate.
- To report any defects in kitchen equipment to the maintenance team.
- To be an active member of the catering team, contribute to team meetings, and where necessary assisting the Cook with the induction and on-going development of catering staff. 
- Any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities/grade of the post as defined, subject to the proviso that normally any changes of a permanent nature shall be incorporated into the job description in specific terms.

Role Requirements:

- Basic food hygiene certificate or relevant equivalent qualification
- Some experience of catering for a minimum of 25 covers
- Able to prepare, cook and serve a varied meal
- Clear understanding of Health and Safety issues
- Able to complete written records such as record books, accident/incident report sheets etc.
- Good numeric and literacy skills
- Able to work as part of a team and use initiative to deal with problems in a practical way and respond appropriately where additional help is required or in an emergency situation
- Able to communicate clearly and appropriately with others
- Able to relate appropriately with disabled people
- Able to work flexibly in an environment where daily tasks and routines may vary
- Able to work calmly and assertively in difficult situations
- Demonstrate a commitment to equal opportunities issues as they apply in the work place and challenge attitudes and practices which are discriminatory
- Willing to participate in staff training and participate in personal development through supervision and appraisal
- Good organisational skills
