Salary: SO1 - £29,793.00 - £31,725.00 per annum

Hours: 37.00 per week

Contract: Permanent

Are you looking for a new and exciting opportunity as a Health and Safety Compliance Officer?


As a Health and Safety Compliance Officer, you will provide support to the Force Corporate Health and Safety Advisor to ensure the force is compliant with Health and Safety standards and support commands and management teams in the practical delivery of H&S policy and procedures.

Key accountabilities of the role include, but are not limited to;


1. Conduct regular and statutory (inc. MORI) inspections of all Hampshire Constabulary sites, to review standards of safety and security and provide assurance on compliance. Provide timely inspection reports to the Force Corporate H&S advisor and follow up where issues identified at previous inspections need actioning.


2. Implement and maintain site Fire Safety Management plans, including risk assessments, compliance with HCC fire surveys including liaison and co-ordination of fire wardens across the force and testing through fire evacuation drills.


3. Conduct compliance assessments against the Health and Safety Management system to provide assurance to the Force Corporate Health and Safety Advisor that Department and Strand responsibilities are being met.


4. Administer the Accident Management System, conducting accident investigations when required, ensuring accidents are investigated and the system is up to date.


5. Administer the Safety Management System and provide analysis and relevant data to the Force Corporate Health and Safety Advisor and assist in the production of the H&S dashboard for relevant boards and committees.

6. Co-ordinate force compliance with (and conduct where appropriate) DSE and physical disability assessments for those needing reasonable adjustments to their workstations/working environment and manage the follow up process for the ordering and provision of appropriate equipment.


7. Organise and deliver Health and Safety mandatory training


8. Ensure high risk building related issues are managed to a conclusion in co-ordination with the OPCC Estate team and the facilities management team in a timely manner .


9. Assist the force Health and Safety advisor in preparing reports for Chief Officers at gold groups and governance forums as required


10. Demonstrate flexibility and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, using their own initiative to prioritise workloads and progress issues.


11.Be able to persuade and influence others at various levels in the organisation in order to promote health and safety and ensure compliance with the health and safety management system and associated legal requirements.

Essential Qualifications


Educated to Educated to QCF Level 3 with NEBOSH certificate or working towards (consideration would be given to those not having the certificate if they have a working knowledge of health and safety). Practical knowledge of undertaking DSE assessments OR work experience deemed to have brought the postholder to a comparable level.


Apprenticeship Route: Applicants need no qualifications to be accepted onto the Apprenticeship Programme. English and Maths at QCF Level 2 is a requirement of apprenticeship completion, those who don’t already have this you will be supported to achieve the required standard as part of the apprenticeship programme .

Apprentices will receive full training to achieve the apprenticeship standard which is funded by the apprenticeship levy.

Essential Experience


Good attention to detail. Competent use of standard Microsoft Office such as email, word and excel.

The role holder will be required to visit other locations within Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and therefore needs to have the ability to travel as necessary.

Applicants need to have had experience in undertaking hands on DSE assessment, an understand of building structures/building safety related issues and NEBOSHH certificate as a minimum please. Fire Risk Assessment experience would be an advantage.
