Special constables

Special constables are volunteer police officers who play a pivotal role in helping us to deliver SAFER communities. Specials wear the same uniform and carry the same powers and responsibilities as regular police officers. The post of Special constable is unique, providing you with the chance to work alongside regular officers, using skills and experiences from your day job while giving something back to the community you live in. Hours are flexible, but we ask that Specials offer their time for at least 16 hours a month. All Specials receive full initial and on-going training to gain knowledge of the law and develop skills such as communication, quick thinking, team work, problem-solving and the ability to cope with the unexpected.
